NBBD Purpose
All around the country (and the world for that matter) there is always a huge need for blood. They don’t need it for simple things - they need it to SAVE LIVES! Without blood being available, people who don’t have to will die. I know several instances where Cancer Kids specifically ones with Leukemia (blood cancer - requires a lot of blood transfusions to stay alive) have been unable to get the blood and platelets they need to fight their cancer. Just recently a little boy I know online who has Leukemia had his platelets drop to a highly dangerous level - he needed 3 bags of platelets - he could only get 2. Without that other bag of platelets, that boy could die this weekend.
The platelets that boy needs to stay alive are IN YOUR BODY!! All you have to do to give the gift of life to someone like him is take a little time out of your day and sit in a chair and get poked with a needle. And by doing so, you will be ACTIVELY SAVING A LIFE! What else are you going to be doing that is more heroic and useful than actively saving lives? Donating blood is a heroes activity.
The Purpose of the National Bloggers Blood Drive is to get people talking about all this a LOT more and to get more people donating. Why in the world is there a shortage of blood in America? ONLY 5% OF THOSE ELIGIBLE ACTUALLY DONATE! It’s because people are unaware of the dire need for it, we go about our daily lives ignoring so many things and being so incredibly “busy” that we ignore a simple action that would save someones life.
Every 56 days you can donate whole blood, every 5 days you can donate platelets - you are a life saving machine! Every time you donate you are saving someones life. Quit dreaming of being a hero, of doing something with you life, of being useful and GO DO IT - DONATE!
